How to avoid 'stupid meetings'?

today we will talk about how we can avoid having stupid meetings

1. Why do we have a meeting and stupid meetings?

we do have many meetings and lots of meetings are so-called stupid meetings it's becauseEach human being is cognitively 'blind' at times.

Sometimes, they see things in the light of their own experiences and add their own prejudices to them.

Or, they become obsessed with the correct answer to find the real culprit and miss the hint that gives the correct answer.

We overlook other criteria that solve the problem by sticking to a familiar standard (a handbag with a hidden weapon).

It's not anyone's fault, it's human nature. It is not possible for one person to notice everything at once.

So, in order to overcome that, the organization puts their heads together and conducts a ‘meeting’.

In essence, a meeting is “a group of people (each with their own limitations) gather to exchange opinions and discuss a certain matter.”

It is difficult to expect new ideas and clues if only the form of repeating countless conversations while sitting together as a habit of spending time and money and explaining the hard-prepared materials one by one is repeated.

Just getting together doesn't break individual cognitive limitations, and if there is only a sense of accomplishment that 'we did something together', it's rather close to defeat*.

*A bad move that resulted in a loss on the board because a stone was placed there. It refers to the clues that caused defeat in a match.

2. Decomposition by cause and method

First of all, that's important. Just realizing before a meeting that ‘why do you have a meeting’ or ‘it is not that different from having a meeting’ gives you room to stop habitual meetings (?).

I wonder if this is a 'dumb meeting' where people don't get different opinions because they are clinging to familiar solutions, exchanging the same opinions differently, or noticing them.

If you recognize our distorted meeting (!), how about disassembling the contents carefully?

There is an American high school math teacher. He was struggling with his children's math graduation test scores.

The kids didn't do well in school, and only 39% passed the math graduation exam. But he thought his disciples needed a diploma if they were to get out of poverty.

So, the teacher observed the students and thought about what was the problem internally and how to solve it.

*Share what the problem is (What)

‘Why can’t students take the math test?!’
‘Is bad grades a matter of intelligence?
I don't think that's it. Could it be that I just can’t do math?’

*Explore the cause of the problem and the solution standard (Why)

‘The reason students can’t solve math problems may not be because they’re not good at math. There are students who omit one word from the math passage and give the wrong answer.”

‘You seem to have a hard time figuring out the details while concentrating on a long passage!’

‘Then, is this a problem of reading comprehension, not math? Should we then read more of the passages?’

* How to change with the standard

'no. They are children who find it difficult and boring to read long prints.”

‘We need a more fundamental approach. We need some creative means to get students into thinking that makes them good at math.”

‘Maybe, if we want our students to engage in fun while improving their fundamental skills, how about training with this class?’

After such deliberation, the teacher invites medical students to a high school to give a lecture to analyze art works.

By observing artwork, children learned that the effort was important, as well as the training to discover details.

“Other teachers tried to solve the problem the same way they did before doing the practice problem, and the repetition didn't work. You're missing important details hidden in a mundane scene. I didn't see any disinterested, disinterested expressions on the students' faces. On the other hand, that teacher saw the cause of the problem and decided to solve the students' poor attitude and inability to concentrate before giving out practice problems.”

3. What to add and what to take away

The expression of ideas brings innovation in business and helps increase your credibility among your clients

Maybe it takes some time to figure out the cause of the problem by putting the real problem on the agenda to get out of stupid meetings.

It is only after we understand the ‘why’ that we have been missing, the appropriate ‘how’ will follow.

If it is a regular meeting, why do you have it regularly? What effect do you want from this meeting? If it is an idea meeting, why do you need to gather? What part of this meeting do you want to solve, is it a real problem, and what is the cause of the meeting? , the desired effect at the meeting, the agenda of the meeting, diagnosis of the cause of the agenda, and decision making accordingly

After reading the material on the agenda of the meeting, how about following the outline of the meeting step by step, from the agenda, the cause of the agenda to the solution?

Also, in the case of a meeting with multiple agendas, one way is to distribute only the agenda materials that need to be focused on now rather than giving all the materials at once.

Or, it is said that it is a good diet method to have each member play a role in a meeting.

It's like having someone else constantly remind you whether the agenda on the meeting is a real problem, whether the current diagnosis on the problem is not enough by 2%, and whether the members of the meeting have fallen into functional fixation or blindness.

*to sum it up*

There is something that humans miss biologically.

In order to overcome our individual limitations, we have meetings today.

But just being together doesn't necessarily make you a collective intelligence.

It could be a 'stupid meeting'. Once you know this risk, you will feel the need to change the meeting.

I think an organization that prevents big mistakes through small trials and errors would be less painful. I am writing this article with the intention of making a suggestion to you.

“In addition to shortening the time, I suggest that you study in various directions how to actively exchange opinions and how to make a decision within a certain amount of time. Productivity is something you gradually increase through trial and error.”

let's also check how to TO GAIN INTELLECTUAL HUMILITY

stay cheerful to your customers, listen to their feedback and build your credibility amongst them.
